Yes, random, I know. This is just a quick post covering the past week, which included no less than Owen reaching six weeks old, the Boisvert family growing by two new baby rats, and Ayden’s discovery of a vacant cupboard in our kitchen which has since become a cool cave and the pretend oven in which he bakes muffins. Here are the pics to prove it. Enjoy!

Owen is four weeks old today! Having reached this milestone prompted me to weigh him. Drum roll please… FOURTEEN POUNDS! Yes, four weeks and fourteen pounds! Unbelievable, isn’t it?!?! The child just keeps packin’ it on! And he seems pretty happy about doing it! He’s also just starting to crack a smile - still trying to catch it with the camera - it remains elusive. He is also just starting to vocalize by making little guttural sounds in the back of his throat - I suppose this is referred to a “cooing” in the text books. It’s pretty precious no matter what you call it! I’m really making a concerted effort not to miss any of Owen’s little developments due to the craziness and chaos of having two kids in the house, one of whom is very nearly two years old! Enjoy the pics of the past week! I’ll keep ‘em coming!
Wow! I can’t believe I’ve actually managed to post Owen’s first three weeks of photos in one day! Yipee! Much thanks to Grandma Kelly and Grandpa Guy for stopping by and occupying the kidlets while I get this done! I don’t know how much Owen weighs in at after three weeks… I’ll have to try to get a guestimate using our home scale a little later. Suffice it to say that he’s plenty round and juicy! He barely fits into the clothes meant for a three month old! And Ayden is also growing like crazy right now… as is his vocabulary - which unfortunately includes several swear words at this point (I guess that means Patrick and I use them too much ourselves!?!?). Ayden is also putting multiple words together now (like “go see daddy”, instead of just saying “daddy” or “see”). It makes communicating with him SO much easier and less frustrating for both of us. It has been a pleasant development! Oh, and Ayden is finally on his third night in “big boy” bed. He has done a great job with the transition and only came out of his room once on the first night! I hope it’s not too good to be true! Anyway, I’ll do my best to stay on top of the photos as Owen progresses! We have some fun stuff coming up this summer that I’m sure I’ll report on (Uncle Barney’s birthday, Ayden’s birthday, Daddy’s birthday, Emery’s birthday, Independence Day, etc, etc, etc). Until then…
I don’t have more than a few moments this morning to get these photos posted… but enjoy! They are of the first week of Owen’s life - yes, I know, he’s over three weeks old as of today… but time moves at a much slower pace these days! I’ll try to get some more photos posted later during their naps - no promises though!
Hard to believe Owen has already survived two full weeks of life in our happy family! He’s actually a day over two weeks today, if you want to get technical. After his two-week checkup this morning we were shocked (though not surprised!) to hear that he weighs in at 12lbs 3oz - obviously tipping the scale in the 100+ percentile! A close second was his head at 40cm (95th percentile) and third his height at 22in (90th percentile). All in all he’s a BIG BOY! And it’s a good thing too, with a rambunctious two-year old brother around! We’re also in the process of moving into our new home, so the home PC is out of commission as far as pictures go. I hope to have it all up and running by this weekend, and I’ll upload some much needed photo updates of baby Owen! Check back soon!
Nope - sorry Internet… still no baby. I was hoping for a Mother’s Day present like none other, but to no avail. Should know more tomorrow! Check back soon…
Yep, it’s Thursday, May 10th. And nope, still no baby. We’re now 40 weeks and 4 days into this pregnancy. We met with our midwife this morning and baby is just comfortably hanging out - apparently working on the finishing touches! She thinks he’s hovering around the 8lb mark and that we’re not at any risk presently that he’s getting too large for this to still happen naturally. We’re now keeping our fingers crossed for tomorrow (Friday) or Sunday since those are the next two days that our beloved midwife is on-call at the hospital. My grandfather predicted earlier in the week a delivery at 10pm Thursday (today)… and I’ll take it if I can get it! Everyone, just please keep thinking BABY!!! Keep you posted…
Nope, still no baby. I guess he’s waiting for a written invitation - ooh - that doesn’t paint a pretty picture, does it?
We have an appointment scheduled with our midwife this Thursday AM, at which point we’ll discuss “induction” possibilities for Sunday (yes, Mother’s Day… how appropriate, eh?). At this point I don’t think we’re willing to go the induction route - though my level of desperation may have grown by this coming weekend. We’ll see! THINK BABY!!!!
Today - 39 weeks, 4 days… and COUNTING!!! I was clinging to the information that the midwife shared with us during our visit 2 weeks ago. It’s not too uncommon to have your second child a week sooner than the first. Well, by my calculations, Ayden was born during the first half of his 38th week… making this baby ready to crash the party early in the 37th week… TWO WEEKS AGO. I had also held out hope that he would arrive prior to my birthday (April 27th), so that hewouldn’t have to live his life with his Mom stealing his birthday thunder every year! No luck. He’s not budging. We’ve been researching all of the old-wives-tales about triggering labor and contractions… none of them work. I figure this child will arrive when he’s damn well ready, and it’s obviously going to be on HIS terms. As those sharing my household fully understand, I am D-O-N-E being pregnant, and I’m more than ready to share this little “bundle of joy” with whomever wants to hold him. I just want to be able to see my toes again, shave my legs in the shower, fit into some fashionable clothing that doesn’t resemble a teepee, and be able to walk up the stairs without getting winded. Good GOD, enough already! Oh, and I’m of course anxious to meet the newest member of our family. I just want him to get here!!! Please!!!
Well, the Whisler household has really started off 2007 with a bang… or a cough, wheeze, sniffle, sneeze anyway! Between the three of us (four, if you count my mom), we have been sick continually since the sounds of Old Lang Syne filled the air. Everything from rashes to canker sores, stomach bugs to the flu have kept us busy - shopping the local pharmacy for anything vaguely referring to the ailment of the moment… each of us hoping to find the one that will help us slip into that self-induced coma that will take us away! Even as I sit here writing this, I have my trusty box of tissue sitting right next to the keyboard. And in my case, being well into this pregnancy limits greatly the medications that I can safely take. Oh joy, the perks of pregnancy! Anyway, I’d like to think we’re all on the mend now… and then Ayden wakes up with pink eye (3 days ago)… which “traveled” across the bridge of his nose during the night into the other eye. Oy vey. Will it ever end?
I suppose this is also one of the many underreported joys of parenthood. We are exposed to many many more germs than ever before in our adult lives, thanks to Ayden and his associates. Kidlets in general seem to lack any “mucus management” skills. When do we learn the basic skill of sniffing anyway?
