Tipping the Scale!

Hard to believe Owen has already survived two full weeks of life in our happy family! He’s actually a day over two weeks today, if you want to get technical. After his two-week checkup this morning we were shocked (though not surprised!) to hear that he weighs in at 12lbs 3oz - obviously tipping the scale in the 100+ percentile! A close second was his head at 40cm (95th percentile) and third his height at 22in (90th percentile). All in all he’s a BIG BOY! And it’s a good thing too, with a rambunctious two-year old brother around! We’re also in the process of moving into our new home, so the home PC is out of commission as far as pictures go. I hope to have it all up and running by this weekend, and I’ll upload some much needed photo updates of baby Owen! Check back soon!

Owen Pics

While we were over at Chloe’s this morning to see Owen (since Barney hadn’t met him yet), I captioned and uploaded a bunch of photos from the past week, because Chloe obviously doesn’t have a lot of spare time right now to devote to them. Enjoy!

Owen Has Arrived!

All of your patience has paid off internet!
It’s a long, complicated story, but Owen Patrick Whisler finally made it into this world at 3:08 this morning (May 16th 2007) at a WHOPPING 10 POUNDS 13 OUNCES, and 22 INCHES LONG! Throw in a 15cm head, and you’ll have guessed correctly that no, he didn’t come out naturally (dear god, at that large, I would hope NOT)!
Chloe and Patrick went in to have the amniotic fluid levels checked on Monday morning, since Owen was over a week overdue at that point, and the midwife scheduled her for an induction later that night/early the next morning due to the low results they found. Chloe was put on pitocin early Tuesday morning, and labored pretty hard throughout the next day and night. After having such strong contractions for so long, the midwife couldn’t understand why Owen just wasn’t moving down very quickly. After all, she estimated him at somewhere around 7 or 8 pounds, and Chloe’s first delivery had been so quick and smooth! Then, early this morning, as they were getting ready to do an epidural as a last ditch effort to relax the pelvic muscles to let the baby drop, Owen’s heart rate started dipping drastically so they rushed Chloe in for an emergency c-section.
Things could have gone a little easier on them both, but in the end, the little man (HA….little…) and his momma are healthy, attempting to rest, and nursing like pros.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD BIG BOY!

…And Waiting…

Nope - sorry Internet… still no baby. I was hoping for a Mother’s Day present like none other, but to no avail. Should know more tomorrow! Check back soon…

Still waiting…

Yep, it’s Thursday, May 10th. And nope, still no baby. We’re now 40 weeks and 4 days into this pregnancy. We met with our midwife this morning and baby is just comfortably hanging out - apparently working on the finishing touches! She thinks he’s hovering around the 8lb mark and that we’re not at any risk presently that he’s getting too large for this to still happen naturally. We’re now keeping our fingers crossed for tomorrow (Friday) or Sunday since those are the next two days that our beloved midwife is on-call at the hospital. My grandfather predicted earlier in the week a delivery at 10pm Thursday (today)… and I’ll take it if I can get it! Everyone, just please keep thinking BABY!!! Keep you posted…

In Case You’re Wondering…

Nope, still no baby. I guess he’s waiting for a written invitation - ooh - that doesn’t paint a pretty picture, does it? ;-) We have an appointment scheduled with our midwife this Thursday AM, at which point we’ll discuss “induction” possibilities for Sunday (yes, Mother’s Day… how appropriate, eh?). At this point I don’t think we’re willing to go the induction route - though my level of desperation may have grown by this coming weekend. We’ll see! THINK BABY!!!!

Must we wait for 40 weeks?

Today - 39 weeks, 4 days… and COUNTING!!! I was clinging to the information that the midwife shared with us during our visit 2 weeks ago. It’s not too uncommon to have your second child a week sooner than the first. Well, by my calculations, Ayden was born during the first half of his 38th week… making this baby ready to crash the party early in the 37th week… TWO WEEKS AGO. I had also held out hope that he would arrive prior to my birthday (April 27th), so that hewouldn’t have to live his life with his Mom stealing his birthday thunder every year! No luck. He’s not budging. We’ve been researching all of the old-wives-tales about triggering labor and contractions… none of them work. I figure this child will arrive when he’s damn well ready, and it’s obviously going to be on HIS terms. As those sharing my household fully understand, I am D-O-N-E being pregnant, and I’m more than ready to share this little “bundle of joy” with whomever wants to hold him. I just want to be able to see my toes again, shave my legs in the shower, fit into some fashionable clothing that doesn’t resemble a teepee, and be able to walk up the stairs without getting winded. Good GOD, enough already! Oh, and I’m of course anxious to meet the newest member of our family. I just want him to get here!!! Please!!!
