He Speaks?

Ok, so that’s a bit of an exaggeration.  But Ayden did make his first attempts to directly immitate us this morning.  As is his usual activity in the morning, he was playing with the telephone on our bed.  Once he decided he was done, he crawled over to the edge of the bed and intentionally dropped the phone over the side.  Patrick and I, in stereo, said, "Uh Oh!"  Ayden promptly copied our sentiment with his own cute little, "Uh Oh!".  We were able to get him to repeat the same thing a few times until he was bored with it.  So, not really a real word yet, but at least an intentional speech of some sort.  Exciting for us first time parents nonetheless!!!

One Year And Counting…

Well, Ayden and I just returned from his 1-year checkup, and it could have been more fun!  He was actually in a really great mood, flirting with the nurses and the doctor, and getting into absolutely everything in the examination room.  He was even well behaved while the phlebotomist milked 5 huge drops of blood from his little thumb.  But then it came time for the 3 shots, ChickenPox, MMR, and Pneumonia.  I swear the needles they use are long enough to go completely through his leg!!!  I felt so bad for him, because he was having such a good time with the new faces that were talking so nicely to him, and then out of nowhere, excruciating pain in his legs.  He doesn’t know how to rationalize what’s going on in that situation, and it is so hard to witness!  So he wailed for awhile (and I wanted to right along with him!), and then fell fast asleep on the drive home.  Poor little kidlet.  I know, I know… it’s for his own good… and he won’t remember this later in life… I’ll keep reminding myself of these things.

Oh, I suppose you’re waiting for the statistics.  Here they are:

Weight - 21lb 7 oz  (25th percentile)

Height - 29.5in (25th percentile)

Head - 48.5cm (90th percentile)

No, the head measurement is NOT a typo.  He’s still in the 90th percentile for head size, on his little 25th percentile body!!!  I keep hoping he’ll grow into his head!!!  Keep your fingers crossed for him! :-)

First Trip Around the Sun!!!

My baby is ONE YEAR OLD!  How did this happen???  It feels like only a week ago that we were racing off to St. Vincent’s Hospital (a week before our due date) to meet our little boy for the first time!  My how life has changed since then!  Ayden has brought so much joy, energy, laughter, and sheer bliss into our lives - I don’t know how we ever coped without him?!?!  Patrick and I often ask ourselves what in the world we were waiting for!  We had no idea how ready we were to start our family - and we’re grateful every day for our healthy and happy little boy!  Not a day goes by that he doesn’t make us laugh out loud.  So, thank you, Little Bug, for what has been the best year of our lives so far!  We look forward to SO many more wonderful memories as we get the honor of watching you grow up!  You are the best thing that has ever happened to us!

Ayden’s birthday party was a lot of fun, with many branches of the family tree in attendance.  The weather was great, which allowed for a nice backyard bbq and playtime in the pool with all the cousins.  Everyone spoiled Ayden with a mountain of gifts, many with wheels, all much appreciated! There are loads of photos in the birthday gallery!

There went June…

So the sixth month of the year has come and gone in a flash!  It was a busy month for us (as my lack of blogging indicates).  The shop has been going gangbusters, we celebrated Deontay’s THIRD birthday, we’ve spent some weekends and evenings working on the landscaping in our backyard (my rock fountain is finally installed after two years), my Nanna (Ayden’s great-grandmother) came for a 10-day visit, we went strawberry picking and visited the Beaverton Farmer’s Market, we planned for Ayden’s first birthday party, Ayden had his third haircut, and he has been working on his walking skills.  Whew!  I managed to caption and post photos of most of the above mentioned events in the June 2006 gallery.  I haven’t gotten around to the photos from Ayden’s birthday party yet… but I’m hoping to this evening.  Check back later!  Until then, enjoy a walk down our memory lane for June!
